The Human Papillomavirus (HPV) Vaccination Campaign was today formally launched at District Hospital Ganderbal by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ganderbal, Jatin Kishore. The campaign was launched as part of the nationwide rollout of the programme inaugurated by Hon’ble Prime Minister from Rajasthan.

This program marks a significant step towards protecting adolescent girls from cervical cancer, which is the second most common cancer among women in India and is often caused by persistent infection with the Human Papillomavirus (HPV).

Speaking on the occasion, the DC highlighted the importance of preventive healthcare and said that vaccination remains one of the most effective ways to safeguard the health and future of young girls. He urged parents, guardians and community leaders to actively support the campaign and ensure that eligible beneficiaries receive the vaccine within the stipulated timeframe.

Chief Medical Officer Ganderbal informed that all necessary preparatory measures have been completed to ensure smooth implementation of the programme. He stated that comprehensive line-listing of the target age group has been carried out, followed by block-wise verification to ensure accurate coverage.

He also informed that capacity building and orientation sessions for healthcare workers have also been conducted to equip them with the required knowledge and skills for effective service delivery. CMO further apprised that adequate vaccine stocks have been arranged and proper cold chain mechanisms are in place to maintain vaccine safety and effectiveness.

Regular monitoring and supervision will be undertaken throughout the campaign period to ensure quality implementation and timely reporting. A total of 11 vaccination sites have been identified across the district to facilitate easy access for beneficiaries. District Hospital Ganderbal will serve as the primary centre for the drive.

The DC appealed to all eligible girls in the target age group to come forward and get vaccinated within the campaign period. He stressed that collective community participation will be key to the success of the programme and to building a healthier future for women in the district.

Chief Medical Officer Ganderbal, Bashir Ahmad; Medical Superintendent District Hospital Ganderbal, Dr Farah; health department officials, doctors, paramedical staff and members of the public were present at the launch ceremony.
