To strengthen the district’s fight against the drug menace, Deputy Commissioner Samba Ayushi Sudan convened the District NCORD review meeting today at the DC Complex. Bringing together senior officials, the meeting aimed to take stock of anti-drug measures and chart out a more aggressive course of action.

The Deputy Commissioner conducted a rigorous review of compliance on decisions taken in the previous NCORD meeting, making it unequivocally clear that accountability and timely implementation are non-negotiable. With a sharp focus on grassroots impact, she directed for training of counsellors drawn from schools, colleges, universities, hospitals and Women Self Help Groups to build a robust network of awareness and rehabilitation at the community level.

Underscoring the importance of preventive vigilance, she ordered the installation of CCTV cameras at private coaching institutes establishments that serve large concentrations of youth to deter potential misuse. In another proactive step, departments were directed to compile comprehensive data on non-operational and vacant industrial units, closing off spaces that could otherwise be exploited for illicit activities.

The Deputy Commissioner issued pointed directions to the Health Department to intensify counselling and de-addiction services across the district. She stressed that rehabilitation must go hand in hand with enforcement if the district is to achieve lasting freedom from the drug menace.

On the enforcement front, the Deputy Commissioner called upon the Police to play a proactive and aggressive role in dismantling the drug supply chain, directing them to intensify surveillance, strengthen intelligence networks and leave no stone unturned in tracking down and nabbing drug peddlers and suppliers operating in the district to ensure that anti-drug drives are sustained, coordinated and yield decisive results on the ground.

Emphasising that the battle against drugs demands seamless inter-departmental coordination, Ms. Sudan reaffirmed the district administration’s unwavering commitment to delivering tangible, measurable results and directed all stakeholders to act with urgency, purpose and zero tolerance.

The meeting was attended by SSP Verinder Singh Manhas, ADC Jagdish Singh, ACR SDMs and heads of various line departments, all of whom were directed to ensure strict compliance of decisions and maintain relentless vigilance in the collective mission to rid Samba district of the drug menace.
