Deputy Commissioner Reasi, Nidhi Malik chaired a meeting of the District Road Safety Committee to review the status of road safety measures and enforcement across the district besides deliberating on the Road Safety Action Plan for the financial year 2026–27.

The meeting focused on remedial measures to prevent road accidents with special emphasis on strict implementation of road safety norms as recommended by the Supreme Court of India. The Superintending Engineer PWD (R&B) presented a detailed briefing on initiatives undertaken to strengthen road safety infrastructure in the district.

The meeting was informed that accident-prone black spots, blind curves and other vulnerable locations have been identified and corrective measures initiated. It was further informed that 18 old roads have been identified where installation of crash barriers, retaining walls, proper signage and parapets is required to enhance commuter safety.

The Deputy Commissioner held detailed deliberations with the concerned departments and underscored the need for a coordinated and proactive approach to curb road accidents and ensure safer commuting. She directed PWD (R&B), PMGSY and other concerned departments to formulate a comprehensive and synchronised plan in line with Supreme Court guidelines for effective identification and management of accident-prone black spots across the district.

The DC instructed PWD (R&B) Division Mahore to conduct field inspections and verify locations in Mahore Division where additional safety measures are required. She directed the line departments to submit photographs of identified blind curves and vulnerable locations to ensure proper documentation and monitoring.

Emphasising accountability, the Deputy Commissioner directed executing agencies to clearly identify and specify exact locations where corrective measures are to be undertaken and submit proposals in the prescribed format. She also instructed the concerned departments to identify sites around schools and hospitals where zebra crossings are required so that installation works can be taken up at the earliest to safeguard pedestrians, particularly children and patients.

The meeting was informed that the road safety plan for the Katra Grid has been prepared and roads with black spots and blind spots have been mapped for targeted interventions. Additional Deputy Commissioner, Rakesh Kumar, Superintending Engineer PWD (R&B), Executive Engineers and other concerned officers attended the meeting.
