To strengthen grassroots governance and ensure an effective grievance redressal mechanism, the Deputy Commissioner Udhampur, Saloni Rai, today conducted a public outreach-cum-grievance redressal programme at remote Block Parlidhar.

During the camp, former PRI members and local people of adjoining panchayats raised several important issues and demands, including the construction of a Patwar Khana building, upgradation of the tractor road from Kawa to Dhanwalt, construction of a forest hut at Parlidhar, footbridge at Malti, upgradation of the High School to Higher Secondary level, Road connectivity and water supply at Dhanwalt, construction of a pucca path to Chanotra Mandir and development of a playground at Parlidhar.

The public also highlighted the shortage of staff in various educational and health institutions. While Interacting with PRIs and the general public, the DC said that the main objective of the outreach programme is to obtain a firsthand appraisal of issues at the grassroots level.

She added that such camps help deliver governance at people’s doorsteps and strengthen the public service delivery mechanism. She further assured that their genuine issues would be addressed in a time-bound manner. Officers from the Agriculture, Horticulture and Animal Husbandry Departments briefed the participants about various government schemes.

Later, the Deputy Commissioner distributed plants among local farmers, an initiative organized by the Horticulture Department to promote sustainable and income-generating farming practices.
