Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, Minga Sherpa, today chaired a meeting of district officers at DC office meeting hall to review and strategize the implementation of the newly launched Mission Gyan Bharatam in the district. The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, Chief Planning Officer Baramulla and principals from all the degree colleges of Baramulla.

During the meeting, the DC briefed the officers about the objectives and significance of Mission Gyan Bharatam, a national initiative launched by the Ministry of Culture, GoI aimed at preservation, documentation, digitisation and dissemination of vast manuscript heritage and traditional knowledge systems.

As part of the initiative, the DC directed the officers to constitute dedicated teams comprising linguistic and historical artefact experts, panchayat secretaries and other concerned officials and directed them to undertake village-level visits across the district to systematically identify, verify and document manuscripts and other valuable knowledge resources preserved by individuals and institutions.

Minga Sherpa highlighted that Mission Gyan Bharatam focuses on identifying rare manuscripts and traditional knowledge resources, ensuring their scientific conservation, digitising them through modern tools including artificial intelligence, and creating a national digital repository that can be accessed by scholars, students and the general public.

He further directed the officers and concerned Assistant Professors from colleges to actively participate in the capacity-building programmes being organised by the Ministry of Culture in collaboration with the University of Kashmir, aimed at enhancing skills related to identification, documentation and preservation of manuscripts.

He reiterated that Mission Gyan Bharatam should be implemented in both letter and spirit to ensure that the district meaningfully contributes to the national effort of preserving India’s civilisational knowledge. Meanwhile, the DC also directed the principals of various colleges to proactively spread awareness about the schemes and benefits available under Mission YUVA among students, with the objective of encouraging them to avail self-reliant and gainful employment opportunities.
