Under the campaign against anti-social elements being run by the District Police Sangrur, action has been taken to trace the double blind murder case that occurred in the Dirba area police station jurisdiction, exposing the conspiracy hatched by the real brother to murder his mother and sister, and the accused has been arrested.
Giving information at the local Rest House in this regard, Punjab's Finance and Planning Minister Harpal Singh Cheema stated that on 17.01.2026, information was received that Sarabjit Kaur (age 35 years), resident of village Mouran, who was on duty in the Punjab Police CID Unit at Dirba, had left home in the morning in her car number PB13 BS 1294 (Swift make) along with her mother Inderjit Kaur (age 55 years) to drop her at her relative's place in village Bhai Ki Pishour. After dropping her mother there, she was supposed to go for her duty.
On the way, on the road from Sular Gharat towards village Chhahar, her vehicle met with an accident, caught fire, and both mother and daughter died. Their skeletons were found inside the car. A case was registered against unknown persons vide FIR No. 15 dated 17.01.2026 under Sections 281, 106, 324(5) BNS at Police Station Dirba, and investigation was initiated.
He said that since the case appeared suspicious and to trace it, under the able guidance of Davinder Atri, Superintendent of Police (Investigation) Sangrur, and under the supervision of Dr Rupinder Kaur, DSP Sub-Division Dirba, special teams were formed comprising Inspector Sandeep Singh, Incharge CIA Sangrur, and Inspector Kamaljit Singh, SHO Police Station Dirba, and technical investigation was carried out.
Harpal Singh Cheema further informed that during the investigation, on 23.01.2026, the case was traced and Gurpreet Singh son of Karnail Singh, resident of Mouran, was nominated and arrested. During in-depth interrogation, the accused confessed that in the intervening night of 16/17.01.2026, he murdered his sister Sarabjit Kaur and mother Inderjit Kaur, placed the bodies in the car, staged it as an accident by crashing the car into a tree, sprinkled petrol on the bodies and the car, set it on fire, and fled from the spot.
Now, in the case, the charge under Section 281, 106 BNS has been dropped and Section 103 BNS has been added. The accused's remand has been obtained and further interrogation is being conducted; there is a possibility of more important revelations.
Cheema said that the police are investigating this double murder case very thoroughly. He stated that those committing such heinous crimes in the state will not be spared. The Punjab Government and the police will make efforts to ensure that the criminal is awarded the death penalty.
