To raise awareness about heart health and ensure timely help during cardiac emergencies, Shalby Hospital Mohali on Wednesday launched a dedicated Cardiac Helpline along with a Cardiac Camp aimed at early diagnosis and preventive care.

The new Cardiac Helpline and Heart Care Camp were inaugurated by NK Sharma, former MLA from Dera Bassi, who lauded the initiative as a significant step towards strengthening community-level awareness and improving access to timely cardiac care.

The Cardiac Helpline has been introduced as a single-window, rapid-response facility designed to offer immediate guidance during cardiac emergencies—when timely action is often lifesaving. The service aims to ensure swift coordination between patients and the hospital’s specialised cardiac team.

Emphasising the importance of time-critical care, Dr Sandip Singh Rana, Director, Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery (CTVS), said that prompt medical attention plays a decisive role in saving lives during heart emergencies. “The helpline facilitates faster decision-making and seamless communication, ensuring patients receive timely and appropriate care,” he said.

He also advised the public to adopt heart-healthy habits such as regular physical activity, a balanced low-salt diet, stress management, and quitting smoking, adding that routine health check-ups can significantly reduce the risk of sudden cardiac events.

Highlighting the preventive aspect of the initiative, Dr Arvind Kaul, Director,  Cardiology, noted that early signs of heart disease often go unnoticed. “By combining the helpline with a cardiac camp, we aim to promote early recognition, prompt treatment, and preventive care key to reducing the burden of heart disease,” he said.

The Cardiac Camp, inaugurated alongside the helpline, offers cardiac consultations and basic screening services, encouraging individuals particularly those with risk factors such as diabetes, hypertension, obesity, or a family history of heart diseaseto undergo timely evaluation.

Stressing the role of early screening, Dr Honey Sharma, Consultant, Cardiology, said that many cardiac events can be prevented with timely intervention. “The camp helps identify potential risks at an early stage, while the helpline ensures immediate expert support during emergencies,” she said.

Reaffirming the hospital’s patient-centric approach, Gladwin Nayyar, Chief Administrative Officer, said the initiative reflects Shalby Hospital’s commitment to providing accessible, responsive, and integrated cardiac care to the community.

With this initiative, Shalby Hospital Mohali continues to strengthen its comprehensive cardiac care services by combining clinical expertise, emergency preparedness, and community outreach.
