Mohali Police have achieved a major breakthrough in the case related to the shooting of Kanwar Digvijay Singh alias Rana Balachauria during a Kabaddi tournament held at Sector-79, Sohana on December 15, 2025. Senior Superintendent of Police, SAS Nagar, Harmandeep Singh Hans, while addressing the media today, informed that three accused, including two shooters, acting on the directions of foreign-based gangsters Balwinder Singh alias Donny Bal and Amarjit Singh alias Khabba, have been arrested from Hawra Railway Station, Kolkata.

He said that, as per the directions of the Director General of Police, Punjab, special teams of AGTF and District Police, SAS Nagar were constituted. With the help of CCTV footage analysis and technical surveillance, the accused were successfully traced and apprehended.

Arrested Accused : 

Karan Pathak alias Karan Defaulter, son of Dinesh Pathak, resident of Gali Telian Wali, Nimal Mandi, Amritsar (with native links to Uttar Pradesh), aged about 23 years, 8th pass, unmarried. Two cases related to quarrel and fighting are registered against him at Police Station Division-B, Amritsar. Investigation revealed that he, along with Aditya alias Makhan, fired upon Rana Balachauria.

Tarandeep Singh, son of Jaswinder Singh, resident of village Barewal, Police Station Sarabha Nagar, District Ludhiana, aged about 25 years, M.A. (Sociology), unmarried. A case under the Arms Act is registered against him at Police Station Aero City, Mohali. He was present near the spot with a motorcycle at the time of the incident and facilitated the escape of the shooters after the crime.

Sukhsherpal Singh alias Akash Uppal, son of Bakshish Singh, resident of village Uppal, Police Station Vairowal, District Tarn Taran, aged about 22 years, 12th pass, unmarried. He is wanted in extortion cases registered in District Gurdaspur. Investigation revealed that he is the maternal uncle of gangster Amarjit Singh alias Khabba, resident of village Khabbe Rajput, District Amritsar, and played a key role in planning the attack on Rana Balachauria.

SSP further said that during interrogation, it emerged that the arrested accused are shooters working for the above-mentioned gangsters and were involved in murder and extortion activities on their instructions. The conspiracy to murder Rana Balachauria was hatched in October 2025. From October till the date of the incident, the accused, along with accomplice Aditya Kapoor alias Makhan, stayed in various hotels across Chandigarh, Kalka, Zirakpur and Kharar.

Previously Arrested Accused / Status : 

Ashdeep Singh, son of Mandhir Singh, resident of village Naushahira Pannua, PS Sarhali, District Tarn Taran.

Harpinder Singh alias Middi, son of Jaspal Singh, resident of village Naushahira Pannua, PS Sarhali, District Tarn Taran (killed during a police encounter in the Lalru area).

Jugraj Singh alias Jagga, son of Harpinder Singh alias Mana, resident of Chhapianwali, PS Beas, District Amritsar.

Mandeep Singh alias Mota, son of Bhagwant Singh, resident of Gumtala Chowk area, PS Kambo, District Amritsar.

Davinder Singh alias Tinka, son of Dalip Singh, resident of Mahadev Colony, Rampur Seori, PS Pinjore, District Panchkula, Haryana. A cab driver by profession, he provided logistical support, handled funds sent from abroad and facilitated the movement of the accused after the incident.

Gagandeep Singh alias Karan Sohal, son of late Dalwinder Singh, resident of Wadala Colony, Jalandhar.

The SSP further stated that Aditya Kapoor alias Makhan and some other associates are still absconding and will be arrested soon. The arrested accused are being produced before the Court today, and police remand is being sought for further investigation.

He also disclosed that Rana Balachauria had earlier been targeted twice at different locations, but the accused failed in their attempts.
