Youth Akali Dal (Youth Wing) President from Ghanaur constituency, Sarabjeet Singh Jhinjer, raised the issue of the breaches in the Ghaggar River flowing through Ghanaur and expressed strong protest against the Punjab government.

He said that a few months ago, due to floods, large breaches had occurred in the Ghaggar River, because of which more than a dozen nearby villages suffered heavy human and financial losses. However, it is unfortunate that despite so much time having passed, the Punjab government has still not repaired these breaches.

Sarabjeet Singh Jhinjer alleged that instead of ensuring the safety of the people, the Punjab government is busy filling its treasury through mining. He said that the government has started mining by issuing tenders, for which there is no transparent accounting, but no attention is being paid to the dangerous breaches in the river.

Targeting Congress leader Madan Lal Jalalpur, he said that today he is merely doing politics on the Ghaggar River issue, whereas from 2017 to 2022, during the tenure of his government, and even before that when he himself was an MLA, illegal mining continued in the Ghaggar River. At that time, he neither raised any questions nor ensured any action.

Launching a sharp verbal attack on Ghanaur MLA Gurlal Ghanaur as well, Jhinjer said that the MLA has no concern for the people of his constituency. The saying “whoever lives or dies, he calmly drinks his sweet drink” fits him perfectly. People who suffered losses during the floods are still waiting for government assistance.

Accusing Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Jhinjer said that instead of using the people’s money to solve Punjab’s problems, it is being sent to Delhi. Punjab today is buried under debt, yet the government’s priority is not the protection of Punjab’s farmers, villages, and riverine areas, but serving its masters.

Issuing a warning, Sarabjeet Singh Jhinjer said that the next monsoon is near, but the Punjab government and administration are sitting with their eyes closed. If the breaches in the Ghaggar River are not repaired in time, a flood-like situation may arise again, for which the Punjab government will be directly responsible.

In conclusion, he demanded that all breaches in the Ghaggar River be repaired immediately, illegal mining be strictly stopped, and those affected by the floods be given immediate compensation. He warned that if the government does not take prompt action, the Youth Akali Dal will be compelled to launch a strong agitation along with the people.
