Monthly District-Level NCORD Committee Meeting was today convened under the chairmanship of the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shopian, Shishir Gupta  here at Mini-Secretariat to review the measures being taken to curb drug and substance abuse.

At the outset, the DC complemented the efforts of all stakeholders taken by them against the raging menace of drugs in the district including strict surveillance of hotspot areas and pharmacies, universal computerised billing system of drug stores, police action against trafficking, organisation of awareness camps,destruction of poppy and bhung, among others.

However, while complimenting, the DC cautioned against losing guard and emphasised continued action against the menace. He stressed the importance of strong inter-departmental coordination and  proactive action against drug peddling and rehabilitation and treatment protocols.

The meeting also discussed the issues of enforcement of Anti Tobacco Act, COTPA against the smoking in public places wherein all officers were directed to penalise the smoking in offices and public places. Training of manpower for counselling purposes, mobilisation of village level committees and organising their meetings thereof and increasing progress of drug free panchayats were also discussed for implementation during the meeting.

SSP Shopian, Mushtaq Ahmad Choudhary; ADC Shopian, Dr. Zakir Hussain Faaz; Principal GDC, Shopian, Prof.Shafiq Ahmad; ACR,Shakoor Ahmad; SDM Zainapora,Bilal Ahmad,Tehsildars and other officers of the district administration were present in the meeting.
