Under the leadership of Hon’ble Mr. Justice Ashwani Kumar Mishra, Judge, Punjab and Haryana High Court and Executive Chairman, Punjab State Legal Services Authority, SAS Nagar (Mohali), and under the guidance of the Learned Member Secretary, Punjab State Legal Services Authority, SAS Nagar, as well as the Mrs. Jatinder Kaur, Learned District and Sessions Judge-cum-Chairperson, District Legal Services Authority, Amritsar, the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Amritsar has successfully organized a WALKATHON under the banner “YOUTH AGAINST DRUGS” on 22nd December 2025 at 8:00 AM as part of its ongoing campaign to combat the growing menace of drug abuse and to sensitize the youth and general public about its harmful consequences.
The Walkathon commenced from the District Courts Complex, Amritsar and culminated at Saroop Rani Government College of Women, Amritsar. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from around 500 school students, who marched with banners and slogans conveying a strong message against drug abuse and highlighting the need for a drug-free society.
The Walkathon was flagged off by Ms. Jatinder Kaur, District & Sessions Judge, Amritsar, who emphasized the crucial role of youth in building a healthy and progressive society. She highlighted that drug abuse not only destroys individuals but also weakens families and society at large, and called upon the youth to stay away from drugs and adopt a positive and disciplined lifestyle.
The event was also graced by the presence of Sh. Baljinder Singh, Additional District & Sessions Judge, Amritsar, and Sh. Amardeep Singh Bains, Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Amritsar and the Learned Judicial Officers of Headquarters, Sessions Division Amritsar who actively participated in the Walkathon and encouraged the students to become ambassadors of change by spreading awareness against drug abuse within their communities.
Senior officers of the district administration and police department, including Sh. Dalwinderjit Singh, Worthy Deputy Commissioner, Amritsar, Sh. Alam Vijay Singh, Worthy Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law & Order), Amritsar, and other senior police officials, including the SSP (Rural), also participated in the event. Their presence reinforced the commitment of the administration and law enforcement agencies towards eradicating the drug menace from society.
On reaching Saroop Rani Government College of Women, Amritsar, the participants were warmly received by Ms. Kiranjit Bal, Principal, Saroop Rani Government College of Women, who appreciated the initiative of the District Legal Services Authority and emphasized the importance of educational institutions in guiding youth away from drugs and toward constructive paths.
A Nukad Natak (street play) was also staged during the event, which powerfully depicted the devastating impact of drug abuse on individuals, families, and society. Through impactful dialogues and performances, the street play conveyed a strong message urging the youth to say “No to Drugs”, seek help when needed, and choose education, sports, and positive values over substance abuse.
The performance received wide appreciation and proved to be an effective medium for spreading awareness among the students and the public. Wide publicity and media coverage of the event were ensured through National, State, and Local Print and Electronic Media, including newspapers, television channels, and digital media platforms.
The collective participation of judicial officers, district administration, police officials, educational institutions, and students sent a clear and powerful message that drug abuse is a serious social evil and must be addressed through joint efforts. The event was successfully convened and served as an impactful platform to raise awareness, inspire youth, and reaffirm the commitment of all stakeholders towards building a drug-free, healthy, and responsible society.
