On the sacred occasion of Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s 556th Parkash Purab, Youth Akali Dal, under its ongoing ‘Meri Dastar Meri Shaan’ campaign, organized a special ‘Dastar Langar’ (Turban Camp) today at Sri Darbar Sahib, Tarn Taran, following the guidance of Shiromani Akali Dal President S. Sukhbir Singh Badal and under the leadership of Youth Akali Dal President and Shiromani Akali Dal Core Committee Member S. Sarabjeet Singh Jhinjer.
More than 500 youth and children enthusiastically participated in the camp and proudly tied turbans. Skilled turban-tying experts guided participants on the proper Sikh way of tying a Dastar and explained its deep spiritual and cultural significance. Speaking on the occasion, S. Sarabjeet Singh Jhinjer said, “Meri Dastar Meri Shaan” (My Turban, My Pride) is not just a campaign, but a movement to awaken the true spirit of Sikhism among our youth.
He added that, under the visionary leadership of S. Sukhbir Singh Badal, Youth Akali Dal aims to reconnect the younger generation with Sikh faith, culture, and core values.He stated that with Guru Sahib’s blessings, this initiative will continue across Punjab to spread this message to every district and village.
Youth Akali Dal is fully committed to preserving the history, heritage, and pride of the Sikh Panth. Shiromani Akali Dal candidate Principal Bibi Sukhwinder Kaur Randhawa also attended the event as a special guest. She lauded Youth Akali Dal’s efforts under the ‘Meri Dastar Meri Shaan’ campaign to connect Sikh youth with the turban and Sikh principles, saying such programs inspire faith, pride, and respect among the younger generation.
She congratulated the volunteers and said that through service and cultural awareness, Punjab’s youth can be guided toward a stronger and more purposeful path. S. Sarabjeet Singh Jhinjer emphasized, “The Dastar is our identity, our pride, and a priceless gift bestowed upon us by our Guru Sahiban. Protecting it is the duty of every Sikh.”
He further said that Youth Akali Dal is working not only on the political front, but also on religious and cultural fronts to strengthen the soul of the Sikh community. “Shiromani Akali Dal has always taken the lead in protecting Sikhism, Gurmat, and Punjabi heritage. Our workers do not merely engage in politics — they serve. Walking on the path shown by Guru Sahiban, serving the Panth is our true mission,” he said.
The event saw massive participation from the Sangat, and the faces of the young participants reflected devotion, pride, and enthusiasm towards Guru Sahib. Many parents expressed happiness that such efforts by Youth Akali Dal are successfully reconnecting their children with Sikh identity and values.
S. Sarabjeet Singh Jhinjer expressed hope that every Sikh youth should be turbaned, disciplined, and inspired by Sikh principles to become a role model in society.
He explained that the “Meri Dastar Meri Shaan” campaign draws inspiration from Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s teaching —
‘Na Ko Bairi Nahin Begana, Sagal Sang Hum Ko Ban Aayi’, which encourages humanity, service, and truth. Guru Sahib taught us the values of equality, brotherhood, and respect. The Dastar, he said, is not merely a symbol of Sikh identity but also a representation of dignity, truth, and equality in society.

Sarabjeet Singh Jhinjer said that Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s Parkash Purab reminds us that the light of Gurbani should not remain confined to Gurdwaras, but must illuminate our every thought, action, and step. Through the ‘Meri Dastar Meri Shaan’ campaign, Youth Akali Dal is striving to ignite that divine light in the hearts of the younger generation.
