Indian Navy’s First Training Squadron (1TS) comprising INS Tir, INS Sujata, INS Shardul and ICGS Sarathi departed Port Mombasa, Kenya on 28 Sep 2025 after a successful three-day port call. The visit concluded on a high note with a PASSEX (Passage Exercise) with Kenya Navy (KNS Shupavu).

The extant visit reaffirmed strong bonds of maritime friendship and cooperation between India and Kenya under the maritime visions of  BAHARI and MAHASAGAR, while providing valuable exposure to trainee officers of both the Navies.

The  Indian Navy and Kenya Navy were engaged in a wide range of professional interactions, cross training visits and joint training exercises at harbour. Key highlights included a combined performance by Naval Bands of both the Navies, joint yoga session, training on damage control & firefighting drills and community outreach to an old age home.

Courtesy calls were exchanged between Commanding Officers of 1TS ships and Commander, Kenya Navy. The delegation also visited the Kenyan Navy Hospital’s Radiology Department featuring state-of-the-art CT scan facility gifted by the Govt of India.

A deck reception onboard INS Shardul, co-hosted by Senior Officer 1TS and the Acting High Commissioner, facilitated interaction with dignitaries from the Government of Kenya, Kenya Defence Forces, and Indian diaspora.

The ships were open for visit by the local populace and the Indian diaspora. The successful completion of the long-range training deployment of 1TS underscores Indian Navy's commitment to safeguarding collective maritime interests, capacity building and enduring partnership with IOR nations.
