With the start of paddy harvesting, the district administration has launched special efforts to help farmers in sowing the next crop without burning stubble. Under this initiative, farmers bringing paddy to the market are being offered agricultural tools for stubble management over the phone. Along with this, a Farmers Assistance Center has been set up in the District Administrative Complex.
Giving this information, Deputy Commissioner Mrs. Sakshi Sawhney said that any farmer can seek assistance for stubble management by contacting this support center at 0183-2220159. She added that officers are present at the village level to guide farmers in sowing the next crop without burning stubble.
She further said that this year, all kinds of machinery are available in the district for stubble management, ensuring that farmers do not face any difficulty. Chief Agriculture Officer Mr. Baljinder Singh Bhullar informed that officials are in constant contact with farmers to provide machinery as per their requirements.
He said that the yield of crops in the fields of farmers who avoided burning stubble in the past years has been consistently increasing. He appealed to farmers to adopt this practice again and witness its beneficial results.
Assistant Agriculture Engineer Mandeep Singh informed that the district has 72 balers for making straw bales and 62 rakes for collecting straw. In addition, there are 4290 in-situ machines available for ploughing stubble into the soil or for direct wheat sowing.
