Government procurement of paddy will begin across Punjab from tomorrow. In this regard, Deputy Commissioner Mrs. Sakshi Sawhney today held a detailed meeting with the District Food Supply Controller, District Mandi Officer, and officials of various procurement agencies to review the arrangements in Amritsar district.
She informed that 48 mandis have been notified in the district for smooth procurement. The government has fixed the MSP of paddy at ₹2389 per quintal, and the permissible moisture content is not more than 17 percent. The Deputy Commissioner appealed to farmers to bring only dry paddy to the mandis to avoid any delays.
Mrs. Sawhney assured that the Punjab Government will purchase every single grain produced by farmers. She urged farmers not to rush but to harvest only after properly drying the crop so that procurement can continue smoothly without hindrance.
ADC Mr. Rohit Gupta informed that labor and transportation tenders have also been finalized. “All arrangements are complete, and we are fully prepared to start procurement from tomorrow,”. Additional Deputy Commissioner directed District Mandi Officer S. Amandeep Singh to ensure that moisture levels are checked at the mandi gates and only dry paddy is allowed inside.
On this occasion, District Food and Civil Supply Controller S. Amanjit Singh said that procurement agencies have been allotted mandis and assured that farmers, arhtiyas, and other stakeholders will face no difficulties during the procurement process. He said that meetings have already been held with farmers, arhtiyas, combine operators, and procurement agencies to ensure smooth operations.
