In a significant breakthrough in the fight against GST fake billing scams, the CGST Ludhiana Commissionerate has busted a fake GST firm operating in the iron and steel sector, based in Mandi Gobindgarh, District Fatehgarh Sahib, Punjab. Investigation revealed that the firm had received and passed on fake GST bills worth ₹29.43 crore, thereby evading GST to the tune of ₹5.29 crore.

To support these fake invoices, the firm had generated fake e-way bills and other related documents to escape the scrutiny of GST enforcement agencies. The proprietor of the firm was arrested on 11 September 2025 and remanded to judicial custody.

The CGST Ludhiana Commissionerate reaffirms its commitment to detecting tax frauds and ensuring a level playing field for honest taxpayers.
