Punjab Engineering College (Deemed to be University), Chandigarh, came alive with the colors of patriotism as it celebrated the 79th Independence Day on August 15, 2025, with great enthusiasm and national pride. The celebrations commence with the hoisting of the national flag by the esteemed Director of PEC, Prof. Rajesh Kumar Bhatia (ad interim), accompanied by the faculty, staff, and students.

Initially, Director Prof. Rajesh Kumar Bhatia urged everyone to shoulder their duty in building a Viksit Bharat (Developed India) and highlighted the achievements of PEC students in diverse fields. “Let us together contribute to the growth of India,” he stated, congratulating the gathering on the occasion of Independence Day. Following this, a solemn pledge for Nasha Mukt Bharat was taken under the nationwide Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, reaffirming the institute’s commitment to combating substance abuse and fostering a healthy future for the youth.

The cultural program began with a melodious performance by the Music Club, whose soulful renditions stirred the patriotic spirit among attendees. This was followed by a thought-provoking recitation by students from the Hindi Editorial Board and English Editorial Board, which traced India’s remarkable achievements across science, technology, sports, and social development.

Further, the Dramatics Club presented a graceful and spirited dance performance, portraying the unity, diversity, and resilience of the nation. The stage then transformed into a theatrical space for a gripping monologue that brought to life the story of Pingali Venkayya — the unsung hero who designed the national flag of India.

Through powerful narration and emotive acting, the performance reminded the audience of the sacrifices and vision of individuals who shaped the country’s identity. The celebrations also honored the invaluable contribution of the college’s non-teaching staff. In a heartfelt felicitation ceremony, Prof. Bhatia presented awards to staff members for their dedication and service to the institution.

In his brief remarks, he reiterated the importance of addressing societal challenges, particularly the urgent need for nasha mukti (freedom from substance abuse). The energy of the day surged again with a vibrant performance by the Punjabi Editorial Board, paying homage to the indomitable spirit of Shaheed Bhagat Singh and the countless freedom fighters who laid down their lives for the nation’s liberty.

The act combined music, movement, and dramatic storytelling, leaving the audience inspired by the courage and selflessness of India’s revolutionary heroes. The event concluded with a symbolic and joyous gesture — the release of colorful balloons into the sky by Prof. Rajesh Bhatia and the Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. D.R. Prajapati, representing the soaring aspirations of a free and progressive India.

Along with this, the "Har Ghar Tiranga Rally" was successfully organized by NSS PEC along with  NCC PEC on 14th August 2025 at 5:00 PM within the campus of Punjab Engineering College, Sector 12, Chandigarh. The rally was flagged off by the Hon’ble Director Prof. Rajesh Kumar Bhatia and the Dean Students’ Affairs, Prof. D. R. Prajapati from the PEC Auditorium and the march proceeded through the PEC campus, covering landmarks such as the Shivalik hostel, NAB, Kalpana Chawla Hostel, Residential Area (PEC), and concluded at the Office of the Dean Students’ Affairs.

The event was also graced by the presence of the NSS Coordinator, Dr. Sandeep Kaur along with Dr. Ritu Khanna, Dr. Kamal Kumar, Dr. Ankit Yadav, Dr. Mohit Kumar, Dr. Mayank Gupta, and Dr. Rattan Lal. More than 120 Students, including NCC Cadets and NSS Volunteers, marched with Tiranga across the campus, spreading the spirit of unity and patriotism.

The Independence Day celebrations at PEC were a perfect blend of solemn remembrance and vibrant cultural expression, reflecting the institution’s commitment to nurturing not only academic excellence but also a deep sense of national responsibility among its students. As the tricolor fluttered high against the August sky, the PEC community renewed its pledge to work collectively towards the vision of a strong, united, and developed India.
