In a significant step towards ensuring better delivery of services to the migratory tribal population in the high-altitude Dhoks, Deputy Commissioner Rajouri, Abhishek Sharma, today chaired a comprehensive review meeting with officers of the civil administration and the Army.

The meeting focused on improving education, healthcare, veterinary services, livelihood opportunities, and infrastructure for the migratory communities. Highlighting the importance of coordinated action, the DC stressed close collaboration between the civil administration and the Army for the welfare of tribals during their stay in the Dhoks.

Reviewing the functioning of 117 seasonal schools, the DC directed the installation of signboards reflecting the names of these schools. Teachers will submit geo-tagged photographs with timestamps on a weekly basis, and ZEOs will be deputed on a rotational basis to conduct inspections, including checking students’ notebooks upon their return from Dhoks.

The DC directed the CPO to constitute cross-verification teams to assess the quality and availability of healthcare being provided to the tribal population and submit a detailed report of services rendered so far.

The functioning of the veterinary department in tribal areas was also reviewed. The department has been asked to notify employees and teams deputed, ensure mapping of their locations, and share contact details to facilitate vaccination and treatment of livestock.

The Sheep Husbandry Department will provide shearing machines, vacuum bags for packing wool, and facilitate the sale of wool products. Self-Help Groups, Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs), and the Animal Husbandry Department will train tribal communities and also focus on branding their produce as organic, packaging, and marketing.

The Sheep Department will provide technical support and equipment to enhance productivity and income generation. ADC FCS&CA to submit a proposal for extension of ration distribution portals to migratory populations.

DFO to focus on minor forest produce and ensure SHGs are trained in processing and selling forest-based products. Tourism Department to identify trek routes, passes, and lakes, and organise nomad training programmes to promote sustainable tourism.

RDD to monitor and develop routes, paths, and small bridges to improve connectivity in remote areas. The meeting was attended by Colonel Vivek Bhatia, CPO Maqsood Ahmed, ACD Auqil Nuvaid, DSEO Sandeep Sharma, DSWO Abdul Raheem, CAHO Dr Khalid Hussain, DSHO P.P.
