Transport Commissioner Vishesh Mahajan today paid a surprise visit to Katra town to review transport management and assess compliance with Motor Vehicle norms. During the visit, the Transport Commissioner held meetings with civil and police officers and other stakeholders.

He directed officers and concerned ARTO to conduct regular enforcement drives against commercial vehicles operating without valid documentation, including permits and licences. Special emphasis was placed on establishing NAKAs at designated locations and conducting joint vehicle checking drives to ensure strict compliance.

An awareness-cum-interaction session was also conducted for taxi and three-wheeler auto drivers. Directions were issued to their unions to strictly adhere to traffic norms and provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act.

On-the-spot instructions were issued to defaulters, stressing immediate compliance with the prevailing traffic regulations. During the enforcement drive, approximately 450 vehicles were checked at various locations.

A total of 73 vehicles were e-challaned, 10 vehicles were seized and penalties amounting to ₹2,35,000 are expected from the e-challans. The enforcement team accompanying the Transport Commissioner included MVIs S. Jagandeep Singh, Lakhwinder Singh and Surinder Rana.

The drive was supervised by ARTOs Bipen Singh Charak, Taramani Sharma and Neeraj Sharma. The Transport Commissioner reiterated the department’s commitment to delivering efficient, transparent public services while ensuring strict enforcement of Motor Vehicle laws across the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
