NSO Chandigarh Hosts “Anwesha 2.0” Quiz to Mark 75 Years of National Sample Survey

The National Statistics Office, Regional Office Chandigarh, under the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, Government of India, successfully organized a Quiz Competition titled “Anwesha 2.0” on the theme Knowledge. Insight. Celebration. to commemorate the 75th year of the National Sample Survey (NSS) on 18th July 2025 at the Mahatma Gandhi State Institute of Public Administration, Sector 26, Chandigarh.

The programme was inaugurated by Sh. Deepak Mehra, Deputy Director General, NSO (FOD), Regional Office Chandigarh, who also welcomed the Guests of Honour, Sh. Manoj Goel, Director, Directorate of Economics & Statistical Affairs, Haryana. The event was held in physical mode and witnessed enthusiastic participation from college and university students across various institutions in the capital region. 

Students from both government and private institutions, pursuing diverse undergraduate and postgraduate courses—primarily from the Departments of Statistics and Economics—actively took part in the competition. A total of 48 students representing various institutions participated in the quiz. To ensure the smooth and professional conduct of the event, expert quiz masters were engaged.

The competition was conducted in a fair, disciplined, and well-organized manner, in accordance with the guidelines of NSO (FOD) Headquarters, New Delhi. Based on the scores achieved across two rounds of the quiz, the top three teams were awarded cash prizes, medals, and certificates. A trophy was also presented to the winning team from Panjab University.

• First Prize of ₹10,000/- was awarded to the team of Ms. Himani Sharma and Mr. Shivnandan Rikhee from the Department of Statistics, Panjab University.

• Second Prize of ₹6,000/- went to Ms. Shivani Singh and Ms. Yukta Sobti from SCERT, Sector 32, Chandigarh.

• Third Prize of ₹4,000/- was awarded to Ms. Radhika Sharma and Ms. Simran Kaushal from MCM DAV College for Women, Sector 36-A, Chandigarh.

Participation certificates were also distributed to all the participants in recognition of their enthusiasm and involvement. The event proved to be a resounding success, promoting awareness and interest in statistics among youth and enhancing the visibility of the initiatives undertaken by the National Statistics Office, Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, Government of India.
