As part of the Information, Education and Communication (IEC) campaign under the Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyan, the Deputy Commissioner Poonch, Vikas Kundal today presided over a comprehensive awareness programme held at the Town Hall, Municipal Council Poonch.

The event witnessed active participation from various stakeholders and community members. Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Commissioner emphasized the critical role of parents in identifying early signs of drug abuse among children and youth.

He urged families to remain vigilant and stressed the importance of early intervention through proper counseling and if necessary, referral to de-addiction centres for treatment and care. “The key to tackling drug abuse lies in nurturing strong social values and fostering positive peer relationships,” the DC said.

He further informed that the District Administration has launched a series of targeted IEC campaigns at the panchayat, municipal and educational institution levels. These initiatives aim to sensitize vulnerable age groups, raise grassroots awareness and promote effective rehabilitation for individuals battling addiction.

The program also featured addresses by the District Social Welfare Officer, AYUSH Medical Officer, representatives from the Police Department and officers from the Panchayat, Sports and Bar Association.

The speakers shared insights into the social, economic and medical consequences of drug addiction and underlined the collective responsibility of all sections of society in combating this growing menace.

The awareness programme underscored the importance of community engagement and inter-departmental coordination to achieve a drug-free and healthier society in the district.
