In order to review the progress under the Prime Minister’s flagship Surya Ghar – Muft Bijli Yojana in the district, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Bandipora, Manzoor Ahmad Qadri, today chaired a review meeting at the Conference Hall, Mini Secretariat, Bandipora.

During the meeting, DC took a detailed appraisal of the applications received, installation status, and preparedness for achieving household targets under the scheme. It was informed that 606 applications have been received so far from across the district.

On the occasion, DC emphasized the need for aggressive awareness generation and directed officers to rope in vendors for conducting door-to-door IEC campaigns in Panchayats and urban wards.

He highlighted the scheme’s attractive 60% subsidy, which significantly reduces the upfront cost of solar installations for consumers, especially those with power consumption up to 3 KW.

During the review meeting, DC urged coordination between department and bank representatives to facilitate hassle-free loans for beneficiary contributions, thereby encouraging faster adoption of the scheme.

DC emphasized the importance of regular and effective monitoring of the scheme's implementation. He directed PDD officials to work in coordination with the district administration to develop robust strategies for smooth execution.

Among others, the meeting was attended by Chief Planning Officer Bandipora, Executive Engineer PDD and other officers of Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL), empanelled vendors, and other concerned stakeholders.
