As India emerges as a global leader in organ transplant technology, success rates, and total procedures, the country continues to grapple with a chronic shortage of donors. In 2023, India recorded its highest-ever number of organ transplants at 18,378. However, according to data released by the National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (NOTTO), nearly 10% of these transplants benefited foreign nationals who came to India for treatment, while more than 60% of living organ donors were women.
Despite technological advancements, thousands of Indians remain on long waitlists for a second chance at life. Amidst this urgent healthcare gap, the Sudhir Reema Dewan Foundation (SRDF) held its inaugural event—a charity dinner and fundraiser—at Hyatt Regency, Chandigarh, on May 3, 2025. The event marked the official launch of SRDF’s mission: to raise awareness about organ donation and provide support to underprivileged patients in need of life-saving transplants.
The foundation was established in the memory of Mr. Sudhir Dewan, an organ recipient and passionate advocate for organ donation. His legacy is now being carried forward by Mrs. Reema Dewan and Ms. Divya Dewan Mehta, in partnership with the MOHAN Foundation. The evening featured powerful testimonials from organ recipients and donor families, awareness sessions, and a moving candlelight tribute to honor the donors whose selfless acts continue to save lives.

SRDF’s core objectives include:
• Raising awareness and dispelling myths around organ donation
• Supporting financially challenged patients through transplant procedures
• Assisting with post-transplant care and medication
With a clear vision and a compassionate heart, SRDF is committed to building a future where no life is lost due to lack of an organ donor. The foundation calls upon the community to come forward, pledge, and support the cause—because every donor can be a lifesaver.
