To review the progress of the Amritsar Bulk Water Supply Scheme (ABWSS) initiated by the Punjab Government to ensure continuous supply of clean water to city residents, the Chief Executive Officer of Punjab Municipal Infrastructure Development Company (PMIDC), Ms. Deepti Uppal, IAS, visited Amritsar today.
At Water Treatment Plant being constructed near Vallah village under the project, the CEO held a detailed meeting with Municipal Commissioner Gulpreeet Singh Aulakh, Additional Commissioner Surinder Singh, North-West India Segment Head of Larsen & Toubro (L&T) Jyotsna Gautam, Amritsar Cluster Head Suresh Sharma, Project Director Sanjay Kumar, and Municipal Corporation officials including Jitin Vasudeva (XEN) and project manager Kuldeep Singh Saini (Retired Chief Engineer). During the meeting, the Municipal Commissioner provided an update on the current progress of the project and discussed in detail the reasons behind delays in timely completion of work by the company.
The CEO, along with the Commissioner, Additional Commissioner, L&T officials, and Municipal Corporation officers, inspected several key project sites. These included the under-construction Water Treatment Plant, the Off-take Chamber being built on the Upper Bari Doab Canal to supply water to the plant, the overhead water tank being built near the SSP Rural Police Office, and the pipeline laying along Fatehgarh Churian Road, Circular Road, and Ranjit Avenue.
During the visit, the CEO issued strict instructions to company officials, stating that roads where pipeline laying work has been completed should be promptly restored. The company was also directed to expedite the procurement of mechanical equipment for the water treatment plant and to increase the number of laborers to accelerate project execution.
She emphasized that the company must strictly adhere to the deadlines set for the completion of work and that Municipal Corporation officials must ensure that all tasks are completed within the stipulated timeframe. On this occasion Narendra Pal Singh, Ajay Garg, Shiv Kumar Soni, Giriraj Singh Hada, Ranjit Singh, Ashwani Kumar, and others were also present.
