In a first of its kind mass public interaction program namely 'Sampark' to make Jalandhar a drug free city, Commissioner of Police Ms. Dhanpreet Kaur today gave a clarion call to people to join hands for wiping out the curse of drugs from district. During the interaction with people here at DAV College Jalandhar, the CP unequivocally said that Punjabis have been blessed with indomitable spirit to excel even in hostile conditions.

Citing the examples of terrorism, she said that Punjab overcame even those ‘dark days’ due to the firm commitment and resolve to make the state a peaceful and progressive state. She urged the people to revoke the same spirit to ensure that the problem of drug was completely eliminated from the district.

Ms. Dhanpreet Kaur further called upon masses to join Yudh Nashian Virudh initiative to wipe out drug menace completely from the society. She invited public to report drug related activities openly so as to cut drug supply chain effectively.

She said that the basic motive of this mass interaction was to ensure that the younger generations were saved from falling in prey of the menace of drugs. She said that the state government has already snapped the supply lines of the drugs and now the need of hour was to check its demand by detoxification and treatment of the drug addicts.

The CP further stated that the wheels of government have been set in motion to ensure that this target was achieved the earliest. Throwing light on the Yudh Nashian de Virudh initiative, she said that this was first of its kind initiative to curtail the supply and demand of drugs through mass mobilization.

She said that this path breaking initiative was aimed at ensuring maximum public participation to tackle this menace. She mentioned that the Sampark program would act as a catalyst in transforming the Jalandhar completely into a drug free city as the grave problem of drugs could only be overcome with the active support of the general public, which was the basis of this entire campaign.

She also said that the parents and kin of the drug addicts must shun the so called social stigma attached to this problem and come forward for treatment of their dear ones. The CP said that this problem could not be solved until and unless the family members of drug addicts do not come forward.

She also listed the efforts being made by the state government to detoxify the drug addicts through drug de-addiction centres. During the interaction session, people from various walks of lives shared their valuable feedback to further intensifying thus decisive war against drugs. The CP assured them swift action on their suggestions.

Prominent amongst other present on the occasion included Joint CP Sandeep Kumar Sharma, ADCPs Tejbir Singh Hundal, Sykhwinder Singh, ACPs Rishab Bhola, Sri Venella, besides representatives of Industry, Social and Religious organizations.
