In his first Senate meeting as Vice-Chancellor of Guru Nanak Dev University, Prof. Karamjeet Singh emphasized the importance of making higher education globally competitive and employment-oriented.

He stated that equipping students with practical skills and linking education directly to employability is vital for empowering them to secure or create jobs. The meeting began with a moment of silence to honor former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and other distinguished personalities who passed away.

Senate members congratulated Prof. Singh on his appointment and expressed confidence in his leadership. Registrar Prof. Karanjeet Singh Kahlon and Dean Academic Affairs Prof. Palwinder Singh highlighted Prof. Singh’s contributions to higher education and affirmed that his vision would lead the University to greater heights.

During his address, Prof. Singh announced the establishment of the ‘Surjit Patar Center for Ethical AI,’ a significant initiative by Hon’ble Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann. He noted that the center would uphold ethical values in artificial intelligence, ensuring the technology’s responsible use.

Prof. Singh highlighted the need for job-oriented degrees, emphasizing practical and application-focused online education to bridge the gap between theory and real-world challenges. He prioritized designing new courses to enhance job prospects and promoting Punjabi language education in the global era.
