The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kulgam, Athar Aamir Khan, today convened a meeting with concerned officers to review the implementation of the PM Surya Ghar – Muft Bijli Yojana in the district.
The scheme aims to enhance the share of rooftop solar capacity and empower residential households to generate their own electricity, supported by significant financial contributions from the government.
During the meeting, it was informed that a substantial number of applications have been received for installation of rooftops in the district. Furthermore, five villages have been identified for the establishment of Model Solar Villages, which will be eligible for significant grants after assessment to facilitate their transition to sustainable energy solutions.
The DC emphasized the need to increase registrations under the scheme and directed the departments to launch massive awareness campaigns. The Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) was specifically instructed to conduct door-to-door outreach for mobilizing maximum participation and raising awareness about the scheme.
The meeting was attended by the Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC), Joint Director Planning (JDP), Assistant Commissioner Revenue (ACR), Superintending Engineer KPDCL, Executive Engineer KPDCL, representatives from JKEDA, Tehsildars, and other concerned officers.
