Congress Deputy Leader in the Lok Sabha and local MP Capt Amarinder Singh today condemned the brutal use of force on the peaceful ETT teachers by the police. He warned the police officer responsible for the lathicharge against abusing his power saying he will be dealt with firmly according to the law when time comes. In a strongly worded statement Capt Amarinder said, the ETT teachers were trying to hold a peaceful demonstration and they should have been allowed to do that. He said, the particular officer who was leading the police contingent resorted to unprovoked use of force on the peaceful teachers apparently to please his political bosses.

The Amritsar MP assured the victimised ETT teachers that he will ensure that the particular officer was brought to the book for his brutalities. He disclosed that he was the same officer who was responsible for the killing of a protesting farmer some months ago in Amritsar and he should better have been removed than assigned the sensitive job of dealing with teachers having genuine demands.Capt Amarinder said, this was extreme of authoritarian behaviour of this government which was using some of its ultra-loyalist police officials to resort to excesses on peaceful demonstrators. He pointed out, peaceful protest is everybody’s democratic right but the Akalis were not only denying the same to the people but even gagging their voice.
