Today, the esteemed tabla player Rimpa Shiva, known as the 'Princess of Tabla' from the Farukhabad Gharana, delivered an enchanting performance at Guru Nanak Dev University that left the audience spellbound. Her performance was a highlight of the special event, Swar-Amrit, organized by the Department of Visual and Performing Arts of Guru Nanak Dev University. 

The event commenced with an inauguration ceremony led by the Head of the Department, Dr. Rajesh Sharma, alongside distinguished guests including Padma Shri Ustad Puran Chand Wadali, Dr. Manjinder Singh from the Punjabi Department, Dr. Rihan Hasan from the Urdu Department, Praveen Puri, Director of Public Relations, Dr. Sanjeev Sharma from BBKDAV College for Women, Amritsar, and numerous faculty members, who collectively lit the ceremonial lamp.            

Dr. Sharma welcomed the guests with bouquets. During the event, Padma Shri Ustad Puran Chand Wadali expressed his blessings for Dr. Rajesh Sharma, remarking that this event marks a new beginning. He expressed hope for the department's rapid progress under Dr. Sharma’s guidance. 

The event began with a classical song performed by Ph.D. scholar Harsimran Singh, accompanied by Dr. Murli Manohar at Tabla and Taar Shehnaee by Bhagta Singh. Following this opening act, Rimpa Shiva delivered a mesmerizing tabla performance that seemed to suspend time. 

Present at the event were faculty members including Dr. Baljit Kaur, Dr. Chandan, Dr. Kawaldeep Kaur, Dr. Inderpreet Kaur, and Dr. Megha Salwan, as well as faculty from related departments and research scholars. 

The audience, comprised of guests and students, thoroughly enjoyed her presentation, during which Rimpa provided insights into various aspects of tabla playing. The stage was expertly managed by Dr. Harmeet Singh, an Assistant Professor in the department. 

In closing, Dr. Rajesh Sharma expressed gratitude to the guests and presented them with tokens of appreciation. He assured attendees that similar events will be organized regularly to promote the holistic development of students and to preserve cultural heritage.
