Senior Congress leader and former chairman of Improvement Trust Dinesh Bassi paid tribute to freedom fighter Lala Lajpat Rai on his martyrdom day. Dinesh Bassi dedicated this day to the children by distributing books and copies.

Senior Congress leader and former chairman of Amritsar Improvement Trust Dinesh Bassi arrived as the chief guest at the function organized under the chairmanship of Block Congress Committee Verka's head Navdeep Hundal. Dinesh Bassi, along with party leaders and area residents, paid tribute to Lala ji by offering flowers to his statue.

On this occasion, competitions were also organized for children on patriotic songs and prizes were also distributed to the children. While addressing the children, Dinesh Bassi said that Lala ji has made an important contribution in the freedom struggle by sacrificing his life to free the country from the slavery of the British.

As a social worker, he has given a new direction to society by raising his voice against the prevailing evils. He boycotted foreign goods and inspired all the countrymen to adopt Swadeshi and created a popular wave for it. He said that when the British government committed a massacre in Jallianwala Bagh, Lala ji reached Mumbai and took part in the non-cooperation movement along with Mahatma Gandhi.

Lala ji, who was badly injured in the lathicharge of the police while protesting against the Simon Commission, was martyred on 17 November 1928. He appealed to the students to follow the path shown by Lala ji and contribute significantly to the progress of their country, so that Lala ji's dreams of a bright India can be realised.
