World Student Day is celebrated every year on October 15 to honour the birth anniversary of Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, former President of India and a famous person in the field of education and innovation. It is an important occasion in India and around the world.

Dr. Kalam, often referred to as the "Missile Man of India," took the country to new heights through his contributions to science and technology. The day symbolises his steadfast dedication to encouraging youth to learn and develop a culture of learning.

A Visionary Leader

Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam was born on 15 October 1931 in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu. Coming from a humble background, he became one of India's most renowned scientists and served as the country's eleventh president, a position he held from 2002 to 2007.

His ideas extended beyond science to education, which he believed was the basis of national progress. Throughout his life, he emphasised the empowerment of students, saying they will build the future.

Importance of World Student Day

The United Nations designated World Student Day to pay tribute to Dr. Kalam's belief in the transformative potential of education. The day aims to remember students everywhere and remind them of their potential to bring about good change. Dr. Kalam often pointed out the need for perseverance, imagination, and diligence in his speeches, inspiring students to set lofty goals and pursue them with perseverance.

Inspiration For Generations

Dr. Kalam's life story is an inspiration for perseverance. In his early years, he faced many hardships, including financial limitations. But he never let them stand in his way. His achievements in building the Agni and Prithvi missiles, as well as other space and missile programs for India, demonstrated his intelligence and commitment. As a leader, he was passionate about grooming young minds and often visited universities and schools to connect with children and impart his knowledge.

Tributes and Remembrance

Tributes to Dr. Kalam on this auspicious day have been pouring in, with many dignitaries, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, paying emotional tributes to him, calling him an "enduring source of inspiration" for all Indians.

Across the country, educational institutions hold ceremonies honouring his life and teachings and encourage students to follow his principles of honesty, humility, and hard work.
