In a significant effort to raise awareness and promote safe practices related to Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs), the Chandigarh Administration, in collaboration with the Chandigarh State AIDS Control Society, launched a two-month “Intensified Information, Education & Communication (IEC) Campaign” today.
The campaign was inaugurated with a Cycle Rally, aptly named “Cyclothon,” at the picturesque Sukhna Lake, under the theme “India fights HIV/AIDS & STI.” The Cycle Rally was flagged off by Sh. Ajay Chagti, IAS, Secretary Health, Chandigarh Administration, alongside Dr. Suman Singh, Director Health Services. Addressing the participants, Sh. Ajay Chagti emphasized the importance of adopting healthy lifestyles, urging citizens to incorporate cycling into their daily routines.
He also lauded the efforts of the Chandigarh State AIDS Control Society in controlling the spread of HIV/AIDS in the city and raising awareness about the modes of HIV transmission and its prevention. The event saw enthusiastic participation from over 300 cyclists, representing diverse segments of the city’s population, including women, children, and college students.
The participants creatively decorated their bicycles with the slogan “Know AIDS for No AIDS,” encouraging the public to seek accurate information about HIV/AIDS. Placards bearing informative messages were prominently displayed, further amplifying the campaign’s objectives.
A special prize was awarded for the best-decorated cycle, which effectively conveyed the message about HIV transmission modes. Additionally, a mobile HIV Testing Van was stationed at Sukhna Lake, where participants were motivated to undergo voluntary free HIV testing.
The series of IEC activities would be rolled out over the next eight weeks, including folk performances, flash mobs, social media campaigns, special interventions at government hospitals, and sensitization workshops. These initiatives aim to intensify the fight against HIV/AIDS and STIs in Chandigarh.
This campaign marks a crucial step in Chandigarh’s ongoing efforts to combat HIV/AIDS and STIs, promoting awareness, reducing stigma, and encouraging citizens to access essential health services.

मानव इम्यूनोडेफिशिएंसी वायरस (एचआईवी) और यौन संचारित संक्रमण (एसटीआई) से संबंधित जागरूकता बढ़ाने और सुरक्षित प्रथाओं को बढ़ावा देने के एक महत्वपूर्ण प्रयास में, चंडीगढ़ प्रशासन ने चंडीगढ़ राज्य एड्स नियंत्रण सोसायटी के सहयोग से आज दो महीने का “गहन सूचना, शिक्षा और संचार (आईईसी) अभियान” शुरू किया। अभियान का उद्घाटन एक साइकिल रैली के साथ किया गया, जिसे “साइक्लोथॉन” नाम दिया गया, जो सुरम्य सुखना झील पर “भारत एचआईवी/एड्स और एसटीआई से लड़ता है” थीम के तहत था।
साइकिल रैली को चंडीगढ़ प्रशासन के स्वास्थ्य सचिव श्री अजय चगती, आईएएस ने हरी झंडी दिखाकर रवाना किया, कार्यक्रम के दौरान डॉ. सुमन सिंह, निदेशक स्वास्थ्य सेवाएं भी मौजूद रहीं। प्रतिभागियों को संबोधित करते हुए, श्री. अजय चगती ने स्वस्थ जीवनशैली अपनाने के महत्व पर जोर दिया और नागरिकों से साइकिल चलाने को अपनी दिनचर्या में शामिल करने का आग्रह किया।
उन्होंने शहर में एचआईवी/एड्स के प्रसार को नियंत्रित करने और एचआईवी संक्रमण के तरीकों और इसकी रोकथाम के बारे में जागरूकता बढ़ाने में चंडीगढ़ राज्य एड्स नियंत्रण सोसायटी के प्रयासों की भी सराहना की। इस कार्यक्रम में शहर की आबादी के विभिन्न वर्गों का प्रतिनिधित्व करने वाले 300 से अधिक साइकिल चालकों ने उत्साहपूर्वक भाग लिया, जिसमें महिलाएं, बच्चे और कॉलेज के छात्र शामिल थे।
प्रतिभागियों ने अपनी साइकिलों को रचनात्मक रूप से “एड्स को न पहचानें, एड्स को न पहचानें” नारे से सजाया, जिससे लोगों को एचआईवी/एड्स के बारे में सटीक जानकारी प्राप्त करने के लिए प्रोत्साहित किया गया। सूचनात्मक संदेश वाले तख्तियों को प्रमुखता से प्रदर्शित किया गया, जिससे अभियान के उद्देश्यों को और बल मिला।
सबसे अच्छी तरह से सजाई गई साइकिल के लिए एक विशेष पुरस्कार दिया गया, जिसने एचआईवी संक्रमण के तरीकों के बारे में प्रभावी ढंग से संदेश दिया। इसके अतिरिक्त, सुखना झील पर एक मोबाइल एचआईवी परीक्षण वैन तैनात की गई, जहां प्रतिभागियों को स्वैच्छिक मुफ्त एचआईवी परीक्षण कराने के लिए प्रेरित किया गया।
अगले आठ सप्ताह में IEC गतिविधियों की श्रृंखला शुरू की जाएगी, जिसमें लोक प्रदर्शन, फ्लैश मॉब, सोशल मीडिया अभियान, सरकारी अस्पतालों में विशेष हस्तक्षेप और संवेदीकरण कार्यशालाएँ शामिल हैं। इन पहलों का उद्देश्य चंडीगढ़ में एचआईवी/एड्स और एसटीआई के खिलाफ लड़ाई को तेज करना है।
यह अभियान एचआईवी/एड्स और एसटीआई से निपटने, जागरूकता को बढ़ावा देने, कलंक को कम करने और नागरिकों को आवश्यक स्वास्थ्य सेवाओं तक पहुँचने के लिए प्रोत्साहित करने के चंडीगढ़ के चल रहे प्रयासों में एक महत्वपूर्ण कदम है।
