The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ganderbal, Shyambir today chaired a comprehensive review meeting at DC Office, here focusing on the status of Solid Waste Management (SWM) and the Vishwakarma scheme in the district. The review encompassed various initiatives aimed at enhancing the living standards in rural areas, emphasizing sanitation and hygiene facilities.

Assistant Commissioner Panchayat Ganderbal provided detailed insights into ongoing activities, including the construction of Segregation sheds, machinery procurement, door-to-door waste collection, and user charge collection. It was informed that while one transformer has been installed in each block for Segregation shed, the service line connections are pending in all seven Segregation sheds.

The Executive Engineer KPDCL was tasked to ensure that service line connections are provided promptly to all such Segregation sheds, thereby facilitating their immediate functionality. The DC emphasized that operational Segregation sheds are instrumental in promoting efficient waste segregation and disposal methods, aligning with the district's broader objectives of enhancing environmental sustainability and community well-being.

Regarding user charge collection, ACP informed that approximately Rs 19.50 lakh has been collected from September 2023 to January 2024 in the district. Furthermore, DC issued directives to Block Development Officers (BDOs) to ensure seamless door-to-door waste collection, user charges and proper disposal procedures.

Additionally, the DC also received the status of the Vishwakarma scheme in the district. GM DIC, Bilal Mukhtar presenting a comprehensive update, informed that beneficiary training is currently underway, and efforts to onboard additional beneficiaries are being coordinated by RDD and ULBs.

It was emphasized that CSCs must ensure 100% saturation with utmost transparency to realize the scheme's objectives effectively.
