The District Task Force on Pulse Polio Immunization met here today to discuss and review the preparations for the upcoming National Immunization Day (Pulse Polio) to be observed on March 3, 2024. The meeting was chaired by Deputy Commissioner  Kathua Rakesh Minhas.

At the outset, the Chief Medical Officer informed the meeting that the anti-polio drive will be carried out in the district on 03 March 2024 in which 101534 children upto 5 years of age will be administered polio vaccine. 

It was also informed that 580 vaccine booths have been established across 5 medical blocks of the district with a deployment of 2320 officials, besides 7 mobile teams, 20 transit teams, 129 supervisory staff and collaboration of teachers and 23 mobile team members will be utilized for proper execution and monitoring of the immunization process.

During the meeting, DC emphasized the significance of administering the Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV) to every child under the age of 5. He highlighted the responsibility of all stakeholders in maintaining a polio-free status and stressed the importance of effective implementation of the pulse polio immunization program in safeguarding future generations from this disease.

The DC directed the health department to take proactive measures and to administer the OPV to all children in the age group of 0-5 at the designated booths throughout the district on March 3. It was also informed that this will be followed by house-to-house activity on March 4 and 5, ensuring comprehensive coverage in all areas. 

Transit sites and High Risk Areas will also be covered throughout the three days of the immunization program.In order to ensure a successful immunization program, the DC thoroughly reviewed the operational plans and logistical arrangements for the Pulse Polio Immunization campaign. 

Emphasizing the importance of reaching every child with the polio vaccine, DC underscored the significance of community engagement and urged all stakeholders to mobilize resources effectively to achieve maximum coverage. 

He sought detailed information on the number of booths, vaccine availability in remote areas, and personnel deployment.The DC called upon all concerned departments to actively participate and assume leadership roles to make this immunization program a resounding success. 

He emphasized the need to leave no eligible child behind without vaccination and urged everyone to work collectively to achieve the shared goal of a polio-free society. He also encouraged everyone to continue their efforts and commitment towards the success of the pulse polio immunization program.
