History of Chole Bhature

Chole bhature has a convoluted history that stretches back to the Mughal Empire. From the sixteenth to the eighteenth century, a large portion of the Indian subcontinent was governed by the Muslim Mughal dynasty. Their unique cuisine, inspired by ingredients from Central Asia, Turkey, and Persia, was carried with them.

The Mughals brought a variety of cuisines to India , including the fiery chickpea curry known as chana masala. With chickpeas, tomatoes, onions, and spices, this meal gained popularity fast across the subcontinent.

Deep-fried leavened bread is called bhatura, and it is the other ingredient in chole bhature. This bread, which has a fluffy texture, is created using flour, semolina, yogurt, and baking soda.
