The Delhi Police achieved a breakthrough on Saturday by apprehending the mastermind responsible for creating the viral deepfake video featuring actor Rashmika Mandanna. The realistic nature of the video sparked a widespread debate on the potential misuse of technology, prompting influential celebrities to voice their concerns. The fabricated video showcased Rashmika Mandanna's face superimposed onto a clip originally featuring British influencer Zara Patel.

Legal Action Unleashed: IPC and IT Act invoked

In response to this alarming incident, the police registered a case under sections 465 and 469 of the Indian Penal Code, 1860, addressing forgery and the defamation of an individual's reputation. Additionally, Sections 66C (identity theft) and 66E (privacy violation) of the Information Technology Act, 2000, were invoked, underscoring the gravity of the offence.
