The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) gave a massive blow to the BJP in Chandigarh. On Saturday, BJP councilor Gurcharanjit Singh Kala from Hallomajra (Ward No. 20) formally joined the Aam Aadmi Party.

On this occasion, along with MLA Kulwant Singh, Rajbir Singh Ghuman (OSD to Chief Minister Punjab), Chandigarh co-incharge Dr. Sunny Singh Ahluwalia, Pradeep Chhabra and Prem Garg were also present.

Now the AAP again has 13 councilors and the number of BJP councilors has reduced. It means that right before the Chandigarh mayor election AAP has gained some strength and will be presenting a tough competition for the BJP. The mayor election of the UT is set for 18th January and AAP seems ready for a good fight.

MLA Kulwant Singh officially inducted Councilor Kala into the party and welcomed him. Kulwant Singh said that with Gurcharanjit Singh Kala's joining, the party will become stronger not only in Hallomajra but in the whole Chandigarh.

He further said that people from different communities are joining the Aam Aadmi Party after being impressed by the public welfare work being done by the Aam Aadmi Party. Gurcharanjit Kala issues statement: Talk of kidnapping is a baseless rumour

After joining the Aam Aadmi Party, Councilor Kala issued a statement saying that he had left the BJP on his own will and joined the Aam Aadmi Party. There is no pressure of any kind on him.
