Today, a delegation from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Chandigarh, led by Dr. SS Ahluwalia, Chairman of the Punjab Water Supply and Sewerage Board and Co-Incharge of Chandigarh, submitted a demand letter to the Deputy Commissioner (DC) IAS Vinay Pratap Singh urging for the swift conduct of mayoral elections.

The delegation included councilors Prem Lata, Poonam Kumari, Suman Amit Sharma, Neha Musawat, Jasvir Singh Ladi, Ram Chandra Yadav, Damanpreet Singh, Lakhbir Singh, Yogesh Dhingra, Kuldeep Kumar, and Manovar.

The AAP delegation emphasized that as per the notification, mayoral elections in the city should have taken place on January 1, but the administration has not yet announced any date for the elections. They alleged that the ruling BJP is attempting to delay the mayoral elections to manipulate the results, as over the past few years, the BJP has consistently postponed the mayoral election date according to its convenience, engaging in malpractices with the election outcomes.

The delegation asserted that mayoral elections are reserved every third year, and this year's election should be impartial without any injustice to the reserved category. This is the only year when a candidate from the reserved category has the opportunity to represent the citizens of the city and contribute to its development. Therefore, the mayoral election in the city should be conducted promptly.

Dr. SS Ahluwalia stated that considering the comprehensive development of the city, it is crucial to conduct mayoral elections at the designated time. Delaying mayoral elections hampers the overall development of the city.

By postponing the mayoral election date, the BJP is not only hindering the development of the city but is also committing injustice against the common people. AAP will ensure that the mayoral election takes place on the scheduled date and there is no injustice to anyone.
