The Punjab Cabinet led by the Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Monday approved summoning of the fifth Session of 16th Punjab Vidhan Sabha on November 28-29.  A decision to this effect was taken by the Council of Ministers in its meeting held under the chairmanship of the Chief Minister here at his office in Punjab Civil Secretariat- I.

The session will start with obituary references on November 28 and the Business for the two days assembly session will be decided by the Business advisory committee shortly.

Approves Creation And Filling Of Nine Posts In Maharaja Bhupinder Singh Sports University, Patiala

The Cabinet also gave nod for creation and filling up of nine posts of technical cadre through direct recruitment in Maharaja Bhupinder Singh Sports University, Patiala. These posts include one post of Assistant Manager, two posts of Programmer, two posts of Technical Assistant and that of Clerk-cum-data entry Operator. 

The university was set up with an aim to upscale the standard of sports in the state through focus on education, training and courses in the field of sports adding that these posts will help in streamlining the work of the university and will facilitate the students in getting their routine work done. 

Gives Consent To Punjab Canal And Drainage Bill, 2023

The Cabinet also gave approval to Punjab Canal and Drainage Bill, 2023 to regulate and manage canals and drainage in the State of Punjab. The main objective to enact the bill is to ensure hindrance free canal waters to farmers and land owners for irrigation purposes, maintenance, repair and timely cleanliness of canals, drainages and natural water courses. 

Apart from this, the bill will ensure a fair and transparent mechanism for redressal of grievances of water users and other regulatory restrictions against unnecessary wastage of water.

Green Signal To Close Psswb And Merger Of Its Employees

The Cabinet also gave nod to close the Punjab State Social Welfare Board (PSSWB) and merger of its staff including PSSWB Headquarter employees, Pensioners and five ICDS blocks into the Department of Social Security, Women and Child Development.

Gives Approval For Sending/ Rejecting The Cases Of Premature Release Of Convicts

The Cabinet also gave its consent for sending the case of one prisoner for seeking the premature release of life convicts confined in the jails of the state and four others for rejecting such cases.  After the nod of the Cabinet under Article 163 of the Constitution of India, these special remission/ premature release cases will be submitted to the Punjab Governor under Article 161 of the Indian Constitution for consideration.

Approves Annual Administrative Report Of The Tourism, Cultural Affairs, Archives And Museum Department

The Cabinet also gave its approval to the Annual Administrative Report of the Tourism, Cultural Affairs, Archives and Museum department, Punjab for the year 2021-2022.
