Senior BJP leader and former minister Mr Surjeet Singh Slathia today paid rich tributes to Brigadier Rajinder Singh, the dedicated and highly decorated Dogra soldier of the Maharaja Hari Singhji’s army, saying that his strong resistance to Pakistani raiders to save Kashmir and subsequent supreme sacrifice this day in 1947 will always inspire those loving their beloved motherland.

“Mahavir Chakra recipient warrior made the nation in general and the Duggarland in particular proud by his supreme sacrifice and left an indelible mark of heroism that remains the golden chapter of our military history”, Mr Slathia said while speaking at a homage giving function on the 77th Shaheedi Diwas of Brigadier Rajinder Singh at Village Rajinder Singh Pura (Bagoona).

Mr Slathia said the sacrifice of Brigadier Rajinder Singh and his men in defending the integrity and sovereignty of the nation in Kashmir during most testing times has been a guiding force for the compatriots to remain at the forefront and foil the machinations of the enemy.

The indebted nation has all along been bowing its head with respect and deep esteem for the Saviour of Kashmir, he said, adding that his martyrdom will continue to inspire generations for serving the nation in whatever capacity they can.

Mr Slathia said this is also an occasion to remember the martyrdom of brave-hearts, who continue to sacrifice their lives for the nation. The biggest tribute to great heroes is to create a strong and stable nation wherein people live in peace and harmony.

He lauded the patriotic spirit of the people in remembering the great son of soil, saying this reflects their love and esteem for the warrior. ‘In fact, it is in consonance with the great heritage and legacy of the Duggerland that has always stood like a rock behind heroes of the nation”, Mr Slathia observed.

“We salute the martyrdom of Brig Rajinder Singh and bow before the courage of Maharaja Hari Singhji valiant forces under his command during the horrendous days of 1947, when they laid their lives to save the paradise on earth ”, Mr Slathia said and led the people of the area in paying floral tributes to the Dogra warrior.

The various other leaders also paid tributes to Brig Rajinder Singh and hailed his supreme sacrifice in saving the people and the Valley of Kashmir. Prominent among those present on the occasion included Sudershan Singh, Sarpanch; Brijpal Singh, Jatinder Singh, Daljeet Singh, Baldev Kumar, Panch, Udham Singh, Sabar Singh, Vice President BJP Samba, Vijay Singh and others.
