A District Level meeting of Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD) was held under the chairmanship of the Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Kulgam, Viqar Ahmed Giri to discuss various measures aimed to curb the drug abuse and narcotic trade in the district.Speaking on the occasion, the ADC informed that as per feedback received from the line departments, four villages in the district have been declared Nasha Mukt  and sought declaration certificates supported by the evidence-based assessments, community feedbacks and verifications from all the line departments in this regard.

During the meeting, threadbare discussion was also held on various issues related to penal action against drug peddlers including registration of FIR, arrests of peddlers, incidences of drug addiction and other areas of concern.The chair was informed that multiple activities ranging from penal action to generation of awareness and massive poppy destruction drives during the season were carried out across the district.Police authorities informed the chair that during the ongoing month, 22 Drug Peddlers have been arrested and 15 FIRs have been lodged. 146 KG Poppy Straw, 03 KG Ganja have also been recovered, and two Vehicles were seized.

Earlier, the ADC said that drug abuse is a serious problem which not only affects individuals, but also families and communities. He stated that it is essential to tackle the issue from multiple perspectives, including deterrence, treatment and enforcement.On the occasion, the ADC stressed upon the Officers of all the line departments including Enforcement agencies to ensure better coordination in imposing greater deterrence to combat dangerous trade of drug-trafficking.The meeting was attended by SP, GM Bhat; ACR Mir Imtiyaz-ul-Aziz, CEO Kulgam and other officers and officials.
