While presiding over the closing ceremony of the state level Sair fair organized in Arki sub-division of Solan district yesterday evening, Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla said that fairs and festivals not only promote and preserve our rich culture and traditions but also strengthen the bond of brotherhood and fraternity. It is a matter of pride that people continue to preserve our old traditions even today.

He said that the state has suffered huge loss of life and property due to the natural disaster and now with collective efforts, life has started becoming normal. People are making every possible effort to help the affected people.

Expressing happiness, he said that Sair fair is related to the faith of the people which inspires us to move forward. “Our efforts should be to preserve our high traditions and future generations should also remain connected to our rich culture”, he added. 

He said that the young generation should not only have knowledge of our civilization and culture but should also be proud of it. Only then the country will move forward and create its own identity in the world, he added. He said that the fair is not only the center of socio-cultural and economic activities but also gives an opportunity to admire the folk culture, arts and crafts of the State. 

He congratulated the festival committee for successfully organizing the three-day Sair fair. He expressed concern over the increasing drug addiction among the young generation and said that there was a need to work together to free the youth from the menace of drugs.

He also distributed prizes for various sports events organized during the Sair fair and released the Souvenir published by the Sair Mela Committee.Earlier, Sanjay Awasthi, Chief Parliamentary Secretary welcomed the Governor and Lady Governor & Chairperson State Red Cross Hospital Welfare Section Janaki Shukla. 

He said that the history of Sair Utsav is about 380 years old. He said that festivals preserve the rich culture and traditions of the state. They also strengthen the bonds of brotherhood and infuse new energy as well.

Earlier, Manmohan Sharma, Deputy Commissioner, Solan welcomed the Governor and briefed about various activities organized during the Sair fair.Superintendent of Police, Gaurav Singh, Chairman, Nagar Panchayat Arki, Hemendra Gupta, Councilors and other prominent people were also present on the occasion.
