Government Medical College, Kathua, celebrated its Foundation Day with immense pride and fervour today commemorating another year of unwavering dedication to excellence in medical education and healthcare services. The celebration was graced by distinguished guests, renowned experts and a myriad of captivating events.

Mayor Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), Rajinder Sharma was the Chief Guest.In a demonstration of the enduring spirit of collaboration,, Secretary to the Government, Health and Medical Education Department, Jammu/Srinagar, Bhupinder Kumar addressed the gathering through a live video conferencing session, underlining the pivotal role of GMC Kathua in shaping the healthcare landscape of the region.

The event also witnessed the presence of several notable dignitaries, including Vice Chairman of the District Development Council (DDC) Raghunandan Singh, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kathua Shivdeep Singh Jamwal and Director Coordination of New Government Medical Colleges Dr. Yashpal Sharma.

Their collective presence underscored the institution's critical role in the community's overall well-being. A highlight of the celebration was a thought-provoking lecture by Deputy Medical Superintendent at PGIMER.

Dr. Vijay Tadia delivered an insightful discourse on the topic "Management of Healthcare Challenges and The Changing Role of Hospitals." Dr. Tadia's expertise shed light on the intricate dynamics of healthcare administration and the evolving challenges faced by healthcare professionals.

The day commenced with a noble initiative—a Plantation Drive, reaffirming GMC Kathua's commitment to sustainability and environmental consciousness. Faculty, staff, and students actively participated, contributing to a greener and healthier future for the region, which was followed by distribution of fruits to patients admitted in different wards of Associated Hospital, GMC Kathua by Principal, H.O.Ds, Medical Superintendent, Deputy Medical Superintendent and faculty members.

Principal of GMC Kathua Dr. Surinder K. Atri, presented the Annual Report for the Year 2022-23, highlighting the institution's remarkable achievements, milestones, and advancements. The report showcased GMC Kathua's dedication to excellence in medical education, research, and healthcare services.

The celebration reached its zenith with captivating cultural performances, including a spirited Dogri Dance, a poignant skit depicting the challenging journey of NEET aspirants and parental pressures, soul-stirring solo singing and guitar performances, an electrifying Punjabi Bhangra performance, and a powerful rendition of the "Shiv Tandav."

The cultural event was organised under the guidance of Dr Vineeta Sawhney (Professor & Head Pharmacology), Chairperson, Cultural Committee, GMC Kathua. Dr. Raj Rishi Sharma, Professor & Head of the Department of Surgery at GMC Kathua, concluded the event with a heartfelt Vote of Thanks, expressing gratitude to all attendees for their invaluable contributions to the Foundation Day celebration.

GMC Kathua's Foundation Day Celebration was a harmonious blend of tradition, academic excellence, environmental stewardship, and cultural vibrancy. It served as a reminder of the institution's multifaceted commitment to the holistic development and well-being of its students and the community at large.
