In a unique initiative aimed at helping the de-addicted youth in rehabilitation, the district administration Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar, I. collaboration with the NGO Hartek Foundation, has launched a skill training centre at De-addiction and Rehabilitation Centre, Sector 66, Mohali.

Deputy Commissioner Aashika Jain alongwith Inspector General of Police, Ropar Range, Gurpreet Singh Bhullar and SSP Dr Sandeep Garg, while starting the project, said that these days the de-addicted youth need skills for rehabilitation so that they could not lapse to treatment given to them to get out of the addiction.

"Last week, during the meeting of NCORD, it was felt that there should be a platform to provide self employment training to the addicted persons along with treatment. Working on that idea, the Hartek Foundation came forward to make the idea practical," said the deputy commissioner.

Expressing gratitude to the management of the foundation, she said that the initiatives like this would do much more to keep the de-addicted persons away from the drugs when they have a skill and handsome earnings after getting free from here.

She added that the batch of training would be of 15 days to 20 days depending upon the understanding of skill based on training. An engineer and an instructor have been deputed here for imparting training from 9:30 to 11:00 in the morning from Monday to Friday. 

Apart from that sports activities would also be increased besides learning them skills of organic farming, added DC Jain. IG Gurpreet Singh Bhullar while lauding the efforts of DC Mohali for paving the way for the employment of the de-addicted youth, said that every addict has a right to start his life again and be the part of the mainstream society. 

He said that skill training is an essential part of the treatment and rehabilitation strategies. He said that as per the commitment of Punjab CM Bhagwant Singh Mann, we are adopting multifaceted techniques to shun the drugs from our state.

SSP Dr Sandeep Garg while appreciating the approach of DC Aashika said that we have a multifold approach to get rid of drugs, first is enforcement, second is public awareness and third is treatment with rehabilitation. He expressed hope that the initiative taken by the district administration with the help of Hartek Foundation will definitely inculcate the skill among the youth getting treatment here.

ADC (G) Viraj Shyamkarn Tidke, SDM Mohali Chandra Jyoti Singh who was very much instrumental to getting set up the skill training centre and Deputy Medical Commissioner cum Nodal Officer Dr Parvinder Pal Kaur were also present.

CEO of Hartek Foundation, Harkirat Kaur a young professional, while expressing her foundation's commitment towards this novel cause, assured the administration of successful completion of the project.
