Ex External Affairs minister and Member Parliament from Patiala Preneet Kaur today visited the protesting farmers of Shutrana for the second time in 4 days. The Patiala MP also took along with her a special central team of NHAI to meet with farmers and resolve their demands who have been sitting on a protest at Rasoli road, Shutrana for the past one month.
Talking to the media after interacting with the farmers the Patiala MP said, "The farmers of Shutrana have been staging a protest from last one month against the construction of Jammu Katra National Highway which is passing through the villages of Phagopatti, Dera Gobindpura, Rasouli, Matouli etc which played a havoc as it blocked the flood water of river Ghaggar in the area and devastated the fields."
She further informed, "The farmers of the area have been demanding that the Jammu Katra National Highway road from Burji No. 141 to 145 should be constructed on pillars so that in future the water may crossover through them."
The Patiala MP informed, "I had taken up their demands with Union Road and Transport Minister Shri Nitin Gadkari Ji during the parliament session and he had assured me of early resolution to these demands. After visiting the farmers on Tuesday, I once again raised the issue with the ministry and today they have sent a special team of engineers to visit the site on ground and understand the problems being raised by the farmers."
Preneet Kaur further said, "The team of NHAI have listened to the demands of the farmers and have assured them that they are redesigning the road plan, so as to no further incident of flooding happens in the future. I'm hopeful that as assured NHAI will address the issues at earliest so that major relief can be provided to these villages."
