Inspector General of Police Gurpreet Singh Bhullar on Friday evening reviewed security preparedness ahead of Independence day and directed the officials to beef up safety measures in the city, especially at all vulnerable places. SSP Dr Sandeep Garg and other officials of district police were also present in the meeting.

Chairing a review meeting with senior officers of the district police, the IGP reiterated firm commitment of the Punjab Police to maintain law and order at every cost. He said that the sole aim of inspecting the arrangements was to make the security system more responsive and efficient.

He assured the people that fool proof security cover had already been put in place in the district and no one would be allowed to take the law in its hands. Mr. Bhullar further mentioned that surprise visits will be conducted by the senior officials regularly to cross-check the security arrangements at vulnerable places adding that field officials should keep a close tab over these locations besides ensuring monitoring of criminals on bail.

He categorically said that any kind of laxity in this task would be dealt with heavy hands. Meanwhile, the IGP presided over a meeting with the SSP Dr Sandeep Garg and GOs where he asked the officials to ensure round the clock patrolling at public places so as to maintain the law and order situation in the wake of ensuring festival season.

He said police teams/PCR staff have been monitoring and patrolling in the city round the clock as these places witness high footfall on week-ends including shopping malls, markets, restaurants, and others. He said that the Police should remain vigilant so that any sort of untoward incident can be avoided in the district.

He also expressed hope that the Police will uphold the glorious tradition of serving the nation selflessly and with utmost dedication and commitment.
