The 9th National Handloom day was today celebrated by the Handloom Development Department Udhampur here under the aegis of “Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav”. Assistant Director Handloom Development Department   Narsingh Dayal Verma, and the  staff members welcomed the participants/ weavers and made them aware about the developmental and welfare schemes run by the Handloom  department for the Socio economic up-liftmen of the weaver community. 

The  artisans were informed about Pradhan Mantri Weaver Mudra Scheme, Credit card Scheme, Education Scheme, Loan for purchase /Renovation / Modernizations of Looms, Share capital Loan, and formation of Co-operative Societies. On the occasion, AD Handloom distributed registration certificates among the beneficiaries of two newly registered Handloom Indl. Cooperatives. 

He also gifted Cotton bed sheets to the participating weavers as a token of encouragement for attending the function. The AD advised the Weavers to adopt new technology and develop new designs by replacing the old type of pit looms with Modern Fly shuttle looms.
