District to have Seven STPs besides Two Surface Water Schemes soon, says ADC Damanjit Singh Mann

Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar district to have seven STPs and Two Surface Water projects soon as the process of setting up Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) at various places in the district is going on war footing and all the work required to get these projects ready at the ground level is being completed continuously. 

Construction of the identified projects will not only lead to proper management of sewage water but also help in dealing with situations like floods.  The treated water will be used for irrigation purposes and various other activities.

Divulging the details, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Urban Development), Damanjit Singh Mann while reviewing the progress of the urban infrastructure works and District Environment Committee, said that the projects would be given practical shape shortly.

He  instructed the Executive Officer of Municipal Council Kharar to complete all pending works related to the provision of land on priority basis to pave the way for construction of 10 MLD STP at a cost of Rs 11.34 crore at Hospital Road Kharar. Apart from this, instructions were given to complete the sewerage works on Kharar-Ludhiana road at worth Rs 1.84 crores.

ADC Mann reviewed the Landran road STP Project worth Rs 47.40 crore and passed on instructuins to speed up the process of laying sewage lines.  He also asked for immediate removal of all the obstacles related to the surface water (canal water) project costing 117.04 crores in 17.45 acres.  

He said that another surface water project is also to be set up at Kurali in 6.80 acres at a cost of 30.51 crores.  It is to be mentioned that canal water is to be provided to the people for drinking through surface water projects.

Additional Deputy Commissioner said that a 17 MLD STP would soon come up at Naya Gaon at a cost of Rs 34.4 crore. Similarly, Sanoli area of Zirakpur would get an STP of capacity 22.5 MLD at a cost of Rs. 55 crores.  Apart from that setting up of 10 MLD STP in Chhat area at a cost of Rs 30 crores is also under process.

He further said that Derabassi would also have an STP project worth Rs 47 crore.  Along with this, tenders have been called for the installation of tube wells at a cost of 3.26 crores in the same area.  Sewerage line and STP project worth Rs 44 crore would also be set up in Lalru area. 

In the same area, tenders have been received for the installation of tubewells at a cost of Rs 2.36 crore.

The Additional Deputy Commissioner said that any kind of laxity regarding the quality of these works will not be tolerated.  He also reviewed the projects under the Punjab Urban Environment Improvement Plan and asked to complete the projects within the stipulated time.

Damanjit Singh Mann asked the officials of Municipal Corporation Mohali and Municipal Councils and Nagar Panchayats to take stringent steps to stop single use plastic and ensure maximum checking in this regard and take action as per the law.

Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Mrs. Navjot Kaur, Joint Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Ms. Kiran Sharma, along with all executive officers of the MCs of the district and officials of various departments were present in the meeting.
