Sh. Manjinder Singh, Member Secretary, Punjab Legal Services Authority, SAS Nagar alongwith Sh. Baljinder Singh, Chief Judicial Magistrate-cum-Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, SAS Nagar and Ms Manni Arora, Chief Judicial Magistrate-cum-Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Patiala  inspected Central Jail, Patiala, New District Jail, Nabha and Open Air Jail Nabha. 

On this occasion, Sh. Manjinder Singh, Member Secretary, Punjab Legal Services Authority, SAS Nagar interacted with the jail inmates regarding their grievances/problems being faced by them. He told the jail inmates about the persons who are entitled free legal aid as per section 12 of Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987 i.e. a member of a Scheduled Caste or Scheduled Tribe; a victim of trafficking in human beings or beggar, a women or a child;  a person with disability, a person  who is a  victim of a mass disaster, ethnic violence, caste atrocity, flood, drought, earthquake or industrial disaster; or,  an industrial workman; or in custody and how they can get free legal services.  

Jail Superintendent, other officers and staff of the jails were instructed to ensure timely redressal of their grievances/problems and were directed to pay special attention towards health and medical facilities, which are being provided to the jail inmates. Jail Authorities were asked to provide the proper medical facilities to Jail Inmates. 

Besides, he also checked the progress of training activities undertaken by DLSA Patiala and DLSA, Fatehgarh Sahib. Hon’ble Judge revealed that inspection of jails is conducted regularly, so that jail inmates may be made aware about their legal rights and free legal services. He further told that for getting free legal aid, needy person can contact personally or on phone number 0175-2306500 of District Legal Services Authority, Patiala.

Apart from this, Hon’ble judges also visited at Bir Ji Dasaundhi Ram Apahaj Ashram, Patiala. During this visit, interaction was done with the inmates of ashram. Their problems/grievances were heard and redressed.
