Senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and MLA from Jagraon Sarvjit Kaur Manuke has given a systematic reply to all the allegations leveled against her related to the disputed Kothi. She said that since becoming MLA in 2017, I have never wronged anyone till today, nor do I have any intention of doing so.
This is not the culture of our party. Addressing a press conference at Chandigarh party headquarters on Thursday, MLA Manuke said that despite being an MLA for more than six years, My husband and I do not have any property.
We have been living in a rented house for many years. This house was rented too. We have a rent agreement and we also paid its rent every month.
When I was asked to vacate the house by the NRI landlord, I asked for a month and a half to find a new house and shift, but they were impatient. When there was a dispute, I vacated that house.
Just a few days ago, I took a new house on rent in the Royal Colony of Jagraon itself, where we have already shifted. I have also returned the keys of that Kothi to the owner. Now I have no relation with any disputed Kothi.
She accused opposition leaders, especially Sukhpal Khaira, of politicizing the matter and said that Khaira deliberately tried to defame me. She accused Sukhpal Khaira of encroaching the road and asked where the road near his Ramgarh house had disappeared.
Manuke also accused Khaira of amassing illegitimate wealth. She said that according to the 'Land Revenue Act-1972' no person can hold more than 17 acres of land in the water available area in Punjab. At that time his father and grandfather were in his house, so accordingly, he should have 34 acres of land.
Then where did he get 51 acres of land? She also accused Khaira of usurping a Chandigarh Kothi through a friend and said that his special friend, who is also his business partner, had taken a house on rent in Chandigarh Sector-5 and after some time Khaira became the owner of that Kothi.
He says kothi is worth only 16 lakh rupees whereas it is a property worth crores. They have not even got the real owner of that Kothi registered.
His friend also has a case of drug smuggling registered against him. Sukhpal Khaira himself should come clean first.
